Application procedures & deadlines

Application procedures

Students with an international diploma download an application form here. You will send us a completely filled out application form (including signature) together with the following documents:

  1. Certified copies of university diploma(s);
  2. Certified copies of university list(s) of grades;
  3. A letter of recommendation from an independent academic referee;
  4. A personal statement of motivation to participate in Health Economics (max. 2 pages);
  5. A curriculum vitae;
  6. Proof of thorough proficiency in written and spoken English;
  7. Passport picture (only 1, attached to application form);
  8. Copy of passport.

Ad. 1 & 2
In case the certified copies of your diploma(s) and list(s) of grades are not in Dutch or English, an official translation in English must be attached. In case your university diploma is not yet available, a statement of your university should be added (you need to have completed your first degree by the end of August).

Ad. 6
Proof of proficiency in written and spoken English must be presented by submitting the results from a TOEFL or IELTS test. The required minimum TOEFL scores are: written 575 / CB 232 / IB 90. The required minimum overall band score for IELTS is 6.5.
You are only exempted from a TOEFL or IELTS test, if English is your mother tongue. Or if you have successfully completed a course of study of significant duration in an institute of higher education in one of the following countries: Australia, Canada (with the exception of Quebec), Ireland, New Zealand, UK and the USA.

Degree in Health Economics

Health Economics is a specialisation within the MSc programme in Health Economics, Policy & Law from the institute of Health Policy & Management. Upon graduation, Health Economics students will receive a degree in Health Economics, Policy & Law. However, students with a background in economics can also choose for a degree in “Economics & Business” from the Erasmus School of Economics from Erasmus University. These students should apply for the specialisation in Health Economics at the Erasmus School of Economics. For further information: master-info@remove-this.few.eur.nl and ESE website.

Students who don't have a background in economics, and/or who wish to have a degree in Health Economics, Policy & Law, must always apply for the specialisation in Health Economics at the institute of Health Policy & Management. For procedures, see above.

Application deadlines

In the table below you will find which application deadline(s) applies to you. All applications that have been received before the deadline will be considered by the HEPL Admissions Committee. Applicants can usually expect result of their application 3 weeks after the deadline has closed. You will find the dates in the table below.

Note, that:

  • Application documents must be received before these deadlines. Applications received after a deadline will be considered in the next application round. Early application is always encouraged.
  • Your application will be considered by our HEPL Admissions Committee. The Admissions Committee decides on admission and, if necessary, may recommend self-study prior to acceptance.
  • Non-EU students will need to apply for a visa and/or residence permit. The application procedures for a visa and/or residence permit will take at least 6 weeks. All documents for the visa/residence permit must be received by Erasmus University before July 1st. Non-EU students who apply after May 15 should realise this is done at their own risk! We can not guarantee your visa and/or residence permit will be ready before the start of the programme, if you apply later than May 15.
    On this website, under “How to prepare for your study in Holland”, you will find information about the application procedures for a visa and/or residence permit. Non-EU students that are admitted will receive detailed information upon admission.
  • International students holding a Dutch university diploma and who already live in the Netherlands can apply according to the deadline for Dutch students (31 July).
