In stead of these above mentioned HEPL electives courses, HEPL students may also take courses from several other faculties of Erasmus University, other Dutch or foreign universities as HEPL elective. Please note that these courses from other faculties or universities must first be approved by the Chair of the Exam Committee iBMG. The courses must be relevant for the HEPL curriculum and must be at the master level. Instructions about the procedures can be found at this page. Here you can also download a list of already approved electives. Please note: HEPL students attending electives courses from the HEPL curriculum don't have to ask for approval.

HEPL students may also participate in the exchange programme which we offer with several European universities. You will find more information regarding following HEPL electives abroad, on the page 'Student exchange programmes'.

Prerequisites

Some courses form a prerequisite for other courses. A prerequisite course implies a compulsory attendance to the scheduled lectures, working groups and examination of this course in order to enable the students to follow the follow-up courses. A negative result in the examination will not compromise the possibility to regularly attend the follow-up courses’ lectures, working groups and examination. Students with a background other than Health Policy and Management are advised to consider courses 'Economics and Financing of Health Care Systems' and 'Rationing: a multi-disciplinary approach' as prerequisites for other courses. Depending on the student’s academic background, additional self-study courses can be recommended. Quantitative Methods for Applied Economics (QMAE) is a prerequisite for the course Research topics in health economics.

Teaching Methods

The programme alternates scientific theory and skills training through lectures, workshops, case discussions, and projects. The institute of Health Policy and Management is renowned for its teaching method of problem-based learning which makes extensive use of case studies and which requires students to participate actively.

To stimulate discussion and interaction between MSc students, fellows, Ph.D. students and visitors, the University offers several seminars and public lectures series on a wide variety of topics, organized by different departments. There are also frequent symposia and workshops attended and given by national and international experts. We strongly suggest our students to be up to date by looking at the following link to EUR Faculties & Schools. Seminars, workshops and public lectures organized by the Institute of Health Policy & Management will be announced on this webpage.

Seminars with presentations and discussions will be organised for both the HEPL-students and the HEPL-staff. During the seminars guest-speakers will be invited.
