About the institute of Health Policy & Management
At the institute of Health Policy & Management, research and educational activities are closely intertwined. Knowledge and experiences of various scientific disciplines such as economics, law, social-medical sciences, organisational science and public administration are brought together and applied to the healthcare sector.
The institute of Health Policy & Management (iBMG) was founded in 1982 within the Erasmus Medical School, and is now part of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FGG). Expansion of activities in the areas of education and research caused the department to leave the premises of the Hoboken campus where the Medical Faculty and the University Hospital are housed. The institute moved to the general EUR Campus (Woudenstein). Within the FGG, the institute enjoys a relatively independent status, but numerous links and collaborations with Erasmus MC (university hospital) and other faculties exist.
The institute for Medical Technology Assessment (iMTA), a joint venture of iBMG and the Department of Social Health Care (iMGZ) was founded in 1988.
Furthermore, iBMG co-operates in the research school and the educational programmes of the Netherlands Institute for Health Sciences (Nihes) and the Netherlands School of Public Health (NSPH). n i h e s and NSPH are joint ventures of Erasmus University Rotterdam, the University of Amsterdam, Utrecht University and the National Institute of Public Health and the Environment.
At present, some 150 persons work in five sections in the institute. These sections are:
- Healthcare Management;
- Health Economics;
- Health Law;
- Healthcare Governance;
- Health Insurance.
