After graduating from Health Sciences at the University of Maastricht, where I majored in Science & Technology Studies (STS), I did my PhD at the Law & Public Policy centre at the University in Leiden (in the end obtaining my PhD from Twente University). Spending three years at the Cultural Sciences Faculty in Maastricht between 1998 and 2001, I then moved on to the Department of Health Policy & Management at Erasmus University. There, I first headed the Research on IT in health care practice and management (Rithm) group before, in 2006, becoming the chair of the Health Care Governance group. From 2007 to 2011, I functioned as Director of Education, being responsible for all the undergraduate and graduate programmes of the Departments. Currently I chair the advisory board of the Health Economics, Policy & Law master and serve on the advisory board of the Healthcare Management master and am a member of the Management Team of the Department.
I serve on several advisory committees outside the Department, e.g. on the science council of the Erasmus MC, the supervisory board of the Academic Collaborative on Supervision with the Dutch Healthcare Inspectorate, the advisory board of the Erasmus Centre for Healthcare Management and on advisory committees on several research programs dealing with quality and safety of care.
